The Factory of the Future is the fourth industrial revolution.
And it will be as disruptive as the introduction of mechanized production with the steam engine in the 18th century, the advent of mass production at the end of the 18th century when electric power became available, and the development of automated production in the middle of the 20th century enabled by machine control systems and early industrial robots.
The connected, sophisticated Factory of the Future will leverage distributed sensors, IoT, Big Data, cloud computing, robotics, and control technologies to profoundly change the way we produce goods. These factories will be more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, more agile and people-centered, more productive and competitive.
CEA is carving out a position at forefront of this revolution, with world-class research on flexible digital factory technologies (IoT, data mining, cybersecurity, digital twins, predictive maintenance, etc.), advanced quality inspection and control solutions (non-destructive testing, on-the-fly quality control), and physical and cognitive assistance for operators (collaborative robotics, exoskeletons, virtual and augmented reality, etc.).
The solutions developed at CEA are in service to a more competitive industrial economy for France and its European neighbors for the benefit of citizens and society.
